Shabbat (Rest on the 7th) Sheet Music Plaque Made From Cherry and Walnut Veneers
This laser-cut and engraved plaque uses sheet music as a metaphor for a Biblical calendar week where we are to work for six days and rest on the 7th day (Sabbath or Shabbat). The title of the music is “SHABBAT” and the subtitle is “Rest on the 7th.” A whole note represents each of the six days. These six whole notes are one of the few six-note scales in music. Most scales are eight notes. A whole rest represents the 7th day (Shabbat). The two dots at the end of the measure are the “repeat” symbol in music. So we work six days, rest on the 7th day, and then repeat. The numbers at the beginning, called the time signature in music, indicate how many counts are in the measure (7 ) and which type of note will receive one count (1 whole note). The words “Con amore” are Italian, and mean “with love” in English, and tell us how the music should be played. The use of Italian here is standard for sheet music. So we are to play this music (live out our seven days each week) with love.
